Review: Bowe Organics Lash Oil

I’m not blessed with luscious lashes, in fact mascara is a necessity to define them, and even after applying several coats, they are rarely dramatic. A product that claims to help boost my lashes’ growth and visibility is going to be welcomed.

A lash oil may not be the first beauty product that you think about purchasing, and if, like I was, you are a little apprehensive (borderline sceptical) about how successful an oil will be in restoring your lashes to those of yesteryear, you will be pleasantly surprised. This product is not only great for lashes, but brows can also benefit from the oil – an antidote to any over-shaping and plucking.

Bowe Organics is a London based company founded by hairdresser Diane Bowe who wanted to embrace natural and botanical ingredients as an alternative to traditional chemical laden hair products. Not only are organic ingredients used, but it is also registered with the Vegan Society, so you know that it is cruelty free too.

What’s inside?

After years of testing, Bowe Organics have created this blend of natural and organic ingredients to produce Bowe Lash Oil.

Rosehip Oil:

Rosehip is the fruit of the rose plant which is pressed to extract the oil. It’s rich in vitamins A, C and D, and is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties; essential for the renewal of health hair follicles.

Castor Oil:

Castor oil is sourced from the castor bean and has been an aged old remedy in traditional medicine because of its anti-inflammatory properties. The beauty industry, however, has embraced it for its ability to promote hair growth

Jojoba Oil:

Jojoba oil is not actually an oil, rather it is a wax ester that is rich in both minerals and vitamins namely zinc, copper, Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids, and vitamins C, B and E. It mimics the oil sebum that we naturally make and contains anti-fungal properties that help maintain the health of the follicles. This is important as the main reason that hairs fall out is due to clogged pores!

Vitamin E Oil:

This is best known for its antioxidant properties which help to minimise the effect of free radical damage and protect cells. Free radicals can prevent cells from healing properly, so vitamin E is a great ingredient for boosting rejuvenation of hair follicles.

How do you use it?

The bottle comes with a dropper so that you can apply a small amount with your fingers to your clean (make-up free) lashes and brows. This is the only downside of the product. It would be easier if it came with a wand so that you can have more control over the application. It does sting if you get it in your eye, so make sure that you have removed contact lenses before you use it!

Is it worth the money?

The Bowe Organics Lash Oil comes in a 10ml bottle and currently retails at £19.99, and while you may not think that is a huge amount for the money, you only need a small amount per application, so it does last. I found that the bottle lasted me a good two and half months/ three months, and although I didn’t use it religiously every night, I did for the majority.

The results have been that my lashes and brows have thickened, not in a showstopping way that would turn the head of strangers, but noticeably to me. There is a greater volume of lashes and I seem to lose them less regularly. My brows have also benefited, mine are quite fair and I have a scar that runs through one of them that is not as visible – I look less like Vanilla Ice, but that’s no bad thing!

This product has worked for me, and I am pleased to recommend it. I’ve scored it 4 stars for effectiveness - one star lost because of the dropper situation.

Is it suitable for a gift?

Absolutely! The logo, packaging and bottle design are sleek and attractive, (and a booklet that details the key ingredients is included - which is a nice touch). The Bowe Organics Lash Oil would make a great gift for anyone, no matter their gender.

5 stars for the gift rating. I toyed with idea of deducting a star as the lash oil may seem a bit random to some people, but then aren’t the ideal gifts the ones that are out of your ordinary and luxurious?

So, yes, I do think that Bowe Organics Lash Oil is worth the money, and the branding and packaging mean that it would make a great gift. What do you think? Have you tried it out yet? Let me know your thoughts, especially if you have had a different experience!
