Keeping your body’s skin hydrated is essential, especially as the skin on our arms and legs have less sebaceous glands than other areas and so, by design, we are not able to keep these parts naturally oiled.

If you are anything like me, as the mercury starts to drop in late autumn, you pay less attention to pampering and moisturising your body. After all, the only part of you that is consistently exposed are your hands and face. With the temperature fluctuations between being outdoors and the warm centrally heated environments being extreme, and the fact that we are more likely to wear layers of clothes that restrict airflow – tights, trousers, vests and even waterproofs – it is no wonder that our skin suffers.

Ta-da enter Kathleen Natural’s Tranquil Fields Body and Massage Oil. The body and massage oil may just be the remedy that you have been seeking to restore your skin to its former glory. With focus on skin hydration, the oil is infused with essential oils that enhance relaxation and feelings of inner calm – tranquillity in a bottle.

Kathleen Natural is based in Royal Leamington Spa in the Midlands (UK), and prides itself on using only the best of natural and organic ingredients which have never been tested on animals. Their whole range is developed through the careful blend of plant and marine extracts and essential oils. With high performance and luxury skincare goals, do they meet expectation?

Plant based oils

The oils in Kathleen Natural’s Tranquil Fields are all derived from plants and are noncomedogenic. This means that they won’t clog your pores – you get the hydration without the heaviness or suffocation that some moisturising products can leave.

  • Certified organic almond oil: with thanks to being so rich in Vitamin E, almond oil keeps your skin looking smooth and feeling soft. Its fatty acids help nourish your skin and retain moisture. It’s hypoallergenic which makes it gentle but highly effective for soothing stressed skin.

  • Argan oil: a quickly absorbed oil that is rich in beneficial nutrients such as Vitamin E and even more fatty acids including Omega 6 which further boosts the moisturising and hydrating properties of the Tranquil Fields Body and Massage Oil.

  • Rosehip oil: rich in Omega 3 and Omega 6, rosehip oil is highly efficient in both fighting the signs of ageing (hoorah) and hydrating the skin. It also is high in Vitamins A, C and D which are anti-inflammatory and known to help reduce the signs of photo-ageing and scarring while delivering hydration to your skin.

  • Sunflower oil: the emollient properties of sunflower oil help your skin retain moisture by keeping it in the cells, which means that hydration lasts longer. Rich in Vitamin E, it works to improve skin health and cell rejuvenation.

Essential oils

Tranquil Fields Body and Massage Oil is infused with a blend of essential oils that add to the healing properties of the oil. The delicate fragrance provides a real sense of luxury that calms, relaxes and soothes and has the power to turn even the quickest of showers into an opportunity to feel enriched. This sounds slightly gushy, but it’s true!

  • Lavender essential oil: the use of lavender oil has been documented for over 2,500 years. It’s a highly versatile oil; it has anti-bacterial properties so is ideal for treating skin conditions, but it also highly effective for eliminating nervous tensions, reducing stress and anxiety, and aiding sleep.

  • Frankincense essential oil: the three Kings were on to something when they brought the baby Jesus frankincense. Frankincense has been used for healing, but its effects on the limbic system (which controls memories, emotions and arousal) is what makes it such a powerful addition to the Tranquil Fields Body and Massage Oil. Frankincense helps to reduce stress and the effect of negative emotions. Its aroma is a mix of pine, lemon and woody scent, which soothes physical and mental scars alike.

  • Vanilla extract: vanilla is rich in antioxidants that prevent the breakdown of cells but also encourage cell rejuvenation. Its fragrance has been found to induce calmness and tranquillity while reducing feelings of stress; refreshing your mind and body.

How do you use it?

After a shower or bath, add a few drops into the palm of your hands, inhale the fragrance and apply to wet skin before patting the skin dry. Absorption is more effective when the oil is warmed to body temperature, so I rub my hands together before I apply it to raise the oil’s temperature a little to boost it’s power.

I’m not over keen on the way that the oil comes out of the bottle, it seems to overly restrict the amount of flow; however, a little goes a long way, so perhaps I should applaud it for stopping me from being overzealous in its application!

Is it worth the money?

Tranquil Fields Body and Massage Oil retails at around £34 for 100ml. It’s not cheap, and before I tried it, I thought that it is too much money for a body oil. However, and this is a big however, it really is effective and there is no escaping from the fact Kathleen Natural have a product that is indeed high-performing and luxurious. Plus, it lasts and lasts.

I love this product and don’t just use it on my body, I use it on my face and any residue on my hands from applying it is used to tame flyaway hair. The scent is gorgeously gentle, and your skin is left feeling noticeably hydrated, smoother and rejuvenated. Every ingredient in the Tranquil Fields Body and Massage Oil works to hydrate, nourish and heal your skin and soothe your mind. It’s absorbed quickly so that you are not waiting around to get dressed and left with that greasy residue – this is a pet hate of mine! This product easily deserves the five starts that I have awarded it; it’s exquisite.

Is it suitable for a gift?

Absolutely! The branding is positively agreeable – there is nothing flash or ostentatious about it; it could even be considered a traditional representation of what a British product should look like. However, the product itself is where the magic lies, and this is what you pay for. I like that though, I don’t buy products just to look pretty on a shelf.

Have you fallen under the spell of Kathleen Natural? This product went above and beyond my expectations and I look forward to using their other products to review – watch this space!
