Review: Black Chicken Remedies Axilla Deodorant Paste

Best Natural Deodorant UK Black Chicken Deodorant Axilla Paste Review

What’s this about how horses sweat, men perspire, but ladies merely glow? I beg to differ. Female sweat is a thing. Male sweat is a thing. It’s real, and not just limited to our four-legged friends. There is no glow, just pure perspiration in varying intensity.

The mercury doesn’t have to be particularly raised either. It’s a year-round issue that needs to be addressed. Since concerns were first raised about the harm that aluminium salts deodorant can cause to the body, I’ve been on a mission to find an organic deodorant that works.

Black Chicken Remedies was founded in 2000 by Chey Birch. She had been suffering from skin irritations and sinus issued and, after seeking advice from a naturopath, she started to review where she was introducing toxins into her body. She found that her beauty and skincare products were made of synthetic and borderline toxic ingredients, and so Black Chicken Remedies was born. Black Chicken Remedies is an Australian skincare company that creates products inspired by ancient and traditional skincare remedies using high quality organic ingredients.

Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste is a unique blend of natural and organic ingredients that neutralise odour without blocking the sweat glands. It’s a paste that contains active essential oils that also provide a gentle fragrance – the aim being to allow your body to expel toxins but minus a putrid smell. The Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste currently retails at around £18 per 75g, it’s pricey but it claims to be 100% effective at neutralising odour.

If you are wondering how to stop sweating underarms naturally, this little pot of natural deodorant could be the solution you are after. Let’s take a look!

What’s Inside?

The Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste is made of natural and organic ingredients. It’s a vegan deodorant recipe that is devoid from chemical nasties, harmful aluminium salts and synthetic fragrances.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is packed full of nutrients that are fantastic for natural skin care. Shea butter is highly moisturising which means that you don’t get that drying sensation that can lead to underarm chafing.

Rich in vitamin E, it helps to minimise dark underarm skin and its anti-inflammatory properties means that sore armpits after shaving is reduced too – a godsend if you suffer from ingrown hairs or underarm rash.

Camelia Tea Oil

Camelia Tea oil is derived from the plant Camellia Oleifera – where green tea comes from. Its rich in vitamins A, B and E and packed full of nutrients including phosphorus, iron, calcium, manganese and magnesium. Camelia Tea oil is so beneficial to the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste because of its non-pore-blocking properties – it allows your skin to breathe.

Sodium Bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate, otherwise known as baking soda, acts as a powerful odour neutraliser in the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste. The sodium bicarbonate contains natural ingredients that help to balance and regulate the pH levels of your body. It’s healing properties help treat skin infections, so again, the opportunity for underarm rash is decreased.

Best natural deodorant without baking soda Black Chicken Barrier Booster

Be warned: some people just don’t get on with sodium bicarbonate and the concentration that is used can feel harsh and cause an irritating underarm rash. If you are sensitive to bicarbonate of soda, Black Chicken Remedies do a sodium bicarbonate free natural deodorant called Axilla Natural Deodorant Paste Barrier Booster – definitely worth checking out – it’s as effective as the original Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste but without the potential for sting.

Arrow Root

The arrow root plant is a great ingredient for this natural deodorant cream. It has high moisture absorbing properties and removes the stickiness that you get from sweating and keeps you feeling fresh. Arrowroot also helps the active ingredients to penetrate the upper levels of your skin, so it feels silkier and smoother.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin clay or white clay has a neutral pH and is gentle on your skin in comparison to other clays such as bentonite clay. Here are the benefits of Kaolin clay:

  • Helps to control oily skin

  • Natural detoxifier

  • Natural exfoliator

  • Soothes rashes and skin irritations

  • Stimulates skin cells and heals cuts (who doesn’t nick their underarm?)

Essential Oils

Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste contains an abundance of pure essential oils. They provide a gentle but non-intrusive fragrance and each pure essential oil is chosen for their skincare benefits – antibacterial, anti-inflammatory with soothing and stabilising properties that freshen the skin:

  • Peppermint

  • Cajaput

  • Mandarin

  • Clove

  • Rose geranium

  • Lime

  • Lavender

  • Cedarwood

How do you use it?

To apply The Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste you need to take a pea-sized amount of the natural deodorant cream and rub on each armpit. It feels a bit weird doing it at first, and I wish that there was another way to do it. However, what it does mean is that you give a bit of attention to this otherwise neglected part of your body! It’s always good to check for unexpected lumps and bumps.

Is it worth the money?

The Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste is expensive – there is no denying that. However, when you are wanting to know how to stop sweating underarms naturally, the Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste is worth every penny. Think of it as investment.

I can go for a run, be in the sun or, and this is very important for a Brit, I can wear several layers in winter and know I can peel them off and be confident that I am still as fresh as a daisy. I no longer have the paranoia of body odour.

It’s near enough a scent free deodorant which means that it can be a natural deodorant for men and for women. It applies invisibly so no more wondering how to remove caked on deodorant from shirts or worrying about deodorant stains on black clothes.

This natural deodorant has been given five stars. I toyed with knocking a star off due to the way that you must apply it. If it came with a wand or spatula it would be helpful, but on reflection, I decided that any tool could become pretty manky after a short period of time – your fingers should be clean anyway and they are easy to wash straight after.

So, is Black Chicken Axilla Deodorant Paste worth the money? Absolutely - but if you have a sensitivity to bicarbonate of soda, choose Axilla Natural Deodorant Paste Barrier Booster.

Is it suitable for a gift?

You may think that buying a natural deodorant is an odd gift, I get it; but honestly, if you know someone who loves organic and vegan beauty products, they will not fail to be grateful for it. The branding is simple, non-fussy and functional, and has no bias towards any gender. It can be considered as a men’s organic grooming product just as much as anyone else’s.

I was first introduced to Black Chicken Remedies through being given the natural deodorant as a gift. Was I offended? No, just happy to have been given a safe and healthy way not to be whiffy! Body odour is far more offensive than being given a natural deodorant!

Here’s a link to Black Chicken Remedies. You used to be able to get this product on Amazon, but at the time of publishing it’s out of stock - and doesn’t appear to be on sale in the UK! I’ve e-mailed the company and waiting for a response – until then, it looks like you need to get your Australian friends to post you some!

UPDATE: The folks at Black Chicken Remedies have got back to me. They are going through the EU certification process - watch this space!

Are there any other natural deodorants that you’ve tried? Let me know, I’m always keen to try a new brand – although this one means that they have a lot to compete against!
